This domain, Suckahs.org, is turning three years old this week.

Our domain was never intended to be interesting to readers outside our little kabal -- most of its members grew up together in a suburb of Buffalo, NY... while a others were added as we opened up the circle. So our posts initially tended to be personal in nature.

But, as time progressed, Albany Dan started posting his short stories, Presley began doodling comics, and I started writing about things I knew nothing about. It generated some interesting discussions, and some less-intelligent discussions, outside the group.

So, this three-year anniversary came as bit of a shock to me, given the relative lack of activity in recent months... still, it looks as if Suckahs might be staging a quiet come-back. Presley suddenly started posting up a storm this week. Tbone wrote about his DNC Convention experience. And Jenna is exploring her "inner-Martha" on her new blog.

Anyway, let's all raise a glass and celebrate... Happy Birthday Suckahs.org!

I read this article this morning on Drudge, and I am somewhat outraged by it.

How can he legitimately make the claim that Kerry's position on abortion in 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade came down, is even remotely representative of his position now? The fact that a young catholic democrat opposed addressing abortion in favor of other issues, which remain highly important even today, when abortion was still opposed by a majority of people and addressed by even fewer is simply unimportant today. This is one issue, of many I am sure, that a person has the right to change their position on as times and society change. I think it is absurd that Drudge is trying to make an issue out of the fact that in 1972 Kerry may not have wanted to address abortion as a national issue.

If that sounds bizarre enough, consider that the city of Buffalo launched a "Fruitcake Amnesty Campaign":http://www.city-buffalo.com/news_1854.html in order to stock up on enough of the stuff for the Dec 30 contest.

So, who won? A rail-thin 105-pound Virginian woman named Sonya Thomas (her picture is above) ate ?-pound more than 405-pound Eric "Badlands" Booker of Long Island. Unbelievable.

And if this sounds like a pathetic attention-getting ploy, remember... it's for a good cause:

??The Food Bank of Western New York ? which services more than 100,000 needy people per month through 500 local food organizations ? will collect donated food for the needy during this holiday season. The Food Bank has seen hunger demand increase by a shocking 23 percent this year.??

I know it's been ages since I've posted. I think it was before July, which means I've been rescued by firemen, moved unexpectedly, started grad school and brought home a stray cat since we've last spoken.

But even more exciting that all of that is THANKSGIVING! Or, more specifically my thanksgiving, which I'm cooking. That's right, Mom, Sis, Mom's boyfriend and Ned are all going to enjoy some tasty home cooking tomorrow.

Except that it almost went completely awry - Lucy style. Yesterday, I was just finishing up the cranberry sauce when I realized that it was suspiciously quiet in my kitchen. The evil silence was due to the fact that my refrigerator had decided to accept a timely and very early death. Early since the fridge that was here when we moved in blew out two weeks into September. So this little baby was only two months old! But seriously, what the f*ck?! Is this the Christmas Story or something? Am I supposed to take the family to the local Chinese restaurant for dinner?

Well, it's all fixed. A nice man came and fixed it for me - and it only cost a day of work and a serious amount of unnecessary stress. No food was lost the the episode since I have such nice neighbors with extra fridge space.

So, with that story out of the way -- here's a list of all the things we're making for the big day. It makes me hungry just thinking about it...

* Turkey a la Martha
* Basic Stuffing (cooked in the bird per Ned's request)
* Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
* Steamed Green Beans and Pine Nuts
* Homemade Cranberry Sauce
* Corn Muffins
* Apple Pie
* Sweet Potato (actually it's squash. I've been informed that Sweet Potatoes only grow in the Carribean) Pie, both with homemade whipped cream

I also made two loaves of Pumpkin Bread for breakfast...now the only surprise is Ned's appetizer. You still making something Ned??
